Fashion seems to sometimes be inspired by film. When the Great Gatsby was being promoted several major designers designed their line around the movie…including Brooks Brothers. It really depends, famous movie lines tend to be repeated for all eternity but I’m not really sure anything in film transcends too much…

I think both food and fashion extends from movies all the time

People tend to follow trends when it comes to fashion…and following celebrities in the news….I tend to wear what I find comfortable…I am not influenced by what is “hot” and what is not.

That is good if movies are not very influenced by fashion ,but directly from the realities of life.

While certain types of films (European, culture, drama, style a.k.a. trend-setting) will draw a certain crowd, and that crowd will almost always seek to compare itself to the actors or persona that are IN the movie, others like Rocky, Alien, and war movies) do not really draw a specific  group  = per se .  BUT, our children DO relate to them!  Sadly this is true, but the producers and directors of today’s movies KNOW their audiences, KIDS!  So they spend millions on them to grow these grossly over-bloody, over-violent, full of action and explosions, and – of course – a car chase or two.

So do we wonder why there was a Columbine? No, we know so.  Our kids have been grown on it as they get older and older, sneaking into R movies just to see violence, NOT the nudity – though with the boys, that’s a bonus.  Only WE can bring it to an end – having family time AT HOME with everyone in attendance – no excuses given or taken.  Homework can be put off for one night (they weren’t planning on doing it anyway).

I would say it would have to be technologies. They are changing our every day life all the time.As for movies they make for better effects in film.

There have been past concepts in film that have transcended time and led to new inventions in the future.

All of these aspects, soundtracks, fashion and ideologies and technologies are influenced by film.  But most of the influence is just trends that come and go.   For fashion, that holds more so true in big cities, not so much in the country, and many others as myself prefer comfort.  But music definitely has influenced from movies.  So has technology and ideologies.

one film element that has left cinema to become part of our culture is hip hop and the slang language use of it. for everyday use in person and the abbreviations used when personal texting and e-mail.

Don’t agree that Hip Hop has left cinema.  Instead cinema has taken up Hip Hop because of the cultural importance…and the greed of film companies to cash in, as they always try to do, on what’s part of our culture.  Think Saturday Night Fever and the disco craze, which didn’t last more than a few years.  That movie was a direct slice of our culture put on the big screen.  This has been done since the dawn of movie making and can be seen with the first talkie – Al Jolson in blackface.  There weren’t many African-Americans, such as Robson, in films back then.  Even in the forties, we saw more African-Americans, but still only maids, servants, etc.  I’d say that Hollywood has tried to cash in on all fads lasting more than an eye blink.

Where movies come to life in culture includes fashion (Katherine Hepburn in pants), some technology (think James Bond cars and weapons), and sometimes in language idioms (as in “make my day” and “I’ll be back”).

Definitely fashion, make up, even hairstyles all transcend the cinema. Product usage, language, music, automobiles. The movies always have what is hot!

Soundtracks are great.  If I see a film and I like the music, I will buy the soundtrack.  I think fashion is also an effect of some movies, just look at how people were dressing after the Gatsby and Oz movies.

Head to toe, all aspects of film are “copied” by the public. It’s another way to try to live life thru the stars.

Cult movies extend way beyond the screen. Remember Rocky Horror Picture Show, how people would dress up for the show and see it 100 times? The Big Lebowski has weekend festivals every year with 1000’s of devoted fans.

I think our language and culture are deeply influenced by screenplays and film. “May the force be with you”,” Show me the money”,” I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse”, ” I’m the captain now” –the list is endless in how our culture and language have been influenced by the spoken word in  film. “Here’s looking at you, kid”
